01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Tender chiffon cakes paired with layered fillings define the pastry case at Mother Goose. A signature choice is the Double Chiffon (Vanilla), built on an airy sponge made with eggs from Kyotamba's Mizuho Farm and crowned with both house-made custard and vanilla whipped cream. Other variations highlight thoughtfully matched accents: the Matcha & Azuki incorporates Uji matcha from Hasegawa Ei Tea Farm into both the cake base and the custard, finished with sweet azuki beans, while the Black Tea version infuses Earl Grey into the crumb to complement an orange-scented custard.

For a deeper tea profile, the Kyo Matcha Tiramisu Cheesecake is another standout. Baked in a wooden frame, the cheesecake is topped with Uji matcha sponge cake, piped tiramisu cream, and a fragrant dusting of green tea powder. The shop also bakes Kyo Soy Milk Fresh Doughnuts, made with soy milk from Kyo Tofu Fujino near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. The dough undergoes a slow fermentation for a plush, chewy texture before being filled with options like custard, whipped cream, or sweet red bean paste.

The shop includes indoor seating where visitors can enjoy their selections alongside specialty coffee, an Uji matcha latte, or a Yuzunade crafted with citrus from Mizuo, Kyoto. It serves equally well for takeout or as a restful stop while strolling the surrounding neighborhoods and visiting nearby temples and shrines.
